Welcome Swallows

The pair of welcome swallows has had a good year, they produced 4 offspring, and have kept us entertained with their aerial feats for months - they compete with the resident fantails and catch insects on the wing - they have kept the puppy fit with him galloping around after them, they have just split the family - Mum and Dad are still here with the youngsters having migrated to warmer climates?, or, maybe to the neighbors - I wonder where they go?

Tuis Turn Up

The Tuis have turned up as the banksias are starting to go into flower - they are staying overnight in the trees as we hear them in the small dawn chorus - they seem to about all day and one has taken possession of the tall pine where he calls from the top

Fantails

We have always had Fantails around but it now looks as if they have moved into the house area full time - I think two pair nested in a Banksia and Pohutakawa tree this year - they flutter around the house all day, I often have them within a foot of my upstairs office window as they fly around the top of an olive tree - the picture is from Nga Manu Sanctuary
