Ohau Gravels Vineyard an exciting new vineyard who won trophies for their Ohau Gravel Pinot Gris and Silver medals for their two Sauvignon Blanc in their first vintage - Their first Pinot Noir is to be released in 2010. Ohau Gravels features on Vista del Sol's wine list including the unreleased 2009 Pinot Noir.
The Ohau Gravel 2009 Pinot Gris won a gold medal and Brother Cyprian Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris at the Romeo Bragato wine awards, Cruisine Magazine rated 4 1/2 stars and top 5 Pinot Gris, Michael Cooper gave it 4 star and said "fleshy with ripe, peachy and gently sweet flavors.
The Ohau Gravel Sauvignon Blanc 2009 won a silver medal in the NZ international Wine show and was selected as one of 11 NZ Sauvignon Blanc's to appear at the 2009 vintage seminar new release tasting held in New York and Chicago. Raymond Chan said..."the wine possesses an intense nose and palate of passionfruit interwined with herbs, cirus fruits, and minerals ... style between Malborough and the Wairarapa".
The Woven Stone Sauvignion Blanc won Silver medals at the Air NZ wine awards and Bragato Wine awards - David Killick from the Christchurch Press said - "a region to watch - a product from North of The Kapiti Coast. this Sauvignon Blanc is so different to its Malborough counterparts, but equally good,. Grassy and delicate with chrisp apple flavours, its intense without being overpowering. Great by itself but also a great companion with seafood, or with cheese or pasta. A new micro wine region to watch".

From 2005 Kapiti Olive Oil won four gold medals in a row, and also gold in the "Olive Oils of the World" competition in Los Angeles. In 2009 they won a silver medal, but 2010 has been the pinnacle year with Kapiti winning 2 medals in the 2010 NZ Olive Oil Awards. The Kapiti Leccino / Picual / Koroneiki blend has won Gold, Best in Class and has gone on to win Best in Show. This was a fantastic achievment as there were over 100 of New Zealands top olive oils entered. Kapiti’s Frantoio oil also won a Silver medal.
Ruth Pretty is one of New Zealand's foremost culinary authorities, she has published 5 books and is based in Te Horo with the cooking school, catering business, wedding venue and a kitchen shop which offers kitchen equipment and a range of food condiments and conserves. To accompany Vista del Sol''s fresh hot bread from the oven every morning are New Zealands finest jams - Te Horo Foods jam was awarded the Food Grocery Council's Grocer's Choice Award - "For outstanding achievement and product innovation in the New Zealand Food Industry". The judges said,"Just like Grandma used to make - these products have the full flavour of 50 per cent fruit and 50 per cent sugar, no additives and are batch-processed to retain intense colour, identifiable pieces of fruit and true-to-fruit flavour. Cafes and Restaurants
Over 20 restaurants and cafes are in Te Horo and Waikanae, these ranging from cafes to award winning silver service restaurants and include NZ fare, French, Cantonese, Cambodian, Indian and Steak Houses. Some of our favorites North of us are Stefan's Gasthof for NZ/Swiss/French fare with Swiss Chef Stefan and the Quarter Acre Cafe with Neil, and in Waikanae are Cafe Melt with Swiss Chef Simon Wislang, Seasons at Country Life for French Provencal and the Eastern Egret for Cantonese fare.
